What a cleaning and exam includes
A routine visit at McCartney Dental combines a professional cleaning with a full exam. The hygienist removes plaque and tartar buildup that a toothbrush and floss can't reach, then Dr. McCartney examines your teeth, gums, and bite.
The exam includes a complete periodontal charting and an oral cancer screening, along with X-rays when they're due. It's the same visit whether it's your first time in the chair here or your tenth.
What to Expect
A cleaning, then a conversation.
Once the cleaning is done, Dr. McCartney walks you through what he sees, whether that's nothing at all or something worth watching. If treatment is needed, you'll get a plan and a cost before anything is scheduled, not after.
How often you need one
Most patients do well with a cleaning and exam twice a year. Some people need to come in more often, depending on their gum health and history, and Dr. McCartney will tell you plainly if that's the case for you.
